Looking ahead

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

As another year slips past, and I find myself nearer to the day I will see Him in all His Glory, my heart yearns for a closer walk with my Lord.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend

Merry Christmas!
During this season and everyday, bear witness to the light.

An Angel Visits

Luke 1

26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[b] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Bible study leads us to believe that December 25th was not when Jesus was born, but it is very likely that the 25th day of the 9th Month on the Hebrew Calendar was the very night that the Angel Gabriel visited Mary with an amazing announcement and through the Holy Spirit, Jesus was conceived. This day on the Hebrew calendar falls right around this time of year. This year it fell on the 20th of December.

Tonight after the sun has set, gather your family, turn off the TV & Cell Phones, and do more than just read the Christmas story. Share with each other what knowing Jesus means to you. Ask and answer questions about your journey as a Believer. Then make the same commitment Mary did on that night when God changed her life........ "I am the Lord's servant, may your word to me be fulfilled."

Seeking Him

2 Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!
Psalms 119

A band of Shepherds rushing through the streets, seeking a baby in a feed trough.
A caravan of Wise Men seeking a King.
An old man waiting in the temple courts seeking the Messiah.

What motivates me to seek Him? I seek him every day because He sought me when I was lost.

Merry Christmas & Happy Hanukkah !!!!!!!!

Step "A"

Psalm 119

ALEPH

1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way,
Who walk in the law of the LORD!
2 Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!
 3 They also do no iniquity;
         They walk in His ways.
 4 You have commanded us
         To keep Your precepts diligently.
5 Oh, that my ways were directed
         To keep Your statutes!
6 Then I would not be ashamed,
When I look into all Your commandments.
7 I will praise You with uprightness of heart,
When I learn Your righteous judgments.
 8 I will keep Your statutes;
Oh, do not forsake me utterly!

My kids are all grown up so I do not find myself putting toys together all night on Christmas Eve anymore. I was a student of the "Instructions are for girls" school. It usually worked out ok, although I could build an extra toy or two from the left over parts.

Putting my life together using this philosophy does not work out so well. Psalms 119 is an A to Z guide to God's instructions. Today is step "A".

Mr Tebow

1 John 3 (The Message)

1 What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we're called children of God! That's who we really are. But that's also why the world doesn't recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he's up to.
2-3But friends, that's exactly who we are: children of God. And that's only the beginning. Who knows how we'll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we'll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus' life as a model for our own.

Sunday I watched the Broncos play the Patriots and as usual Tim Tebow was the topic of much conversation. This verse came to mind as l listened to all the different opinions being expressed. I like the way the Message put this section of scripture because it captures the bewildered gaze that most of the world views Tim Tebow with.
I am not being scrutinized in the way Mr. Tebow is, but I wonder if my life is such a strange puzzle to the lost folks around me. It’s a good question to ask yourself.

WWJD

As the sun sets this evening the celebration of Hanukkah begins. Most Christians know very little about this holiday and even view it with disdain as a non-Christian, Jewish holiday. For several years WWJD was the Christian fad of the day and marketers made millions of dollars off key chains, tee-shirts and bracelets, anything that you could stamp with WWJD was a “hot” item. If we truly wanted to know the answer to that question then we would be blessed to dig deeper into Hanukkah because that’s the holiday that Jesus celebrated this time of the year…. It’s what Jesus did!

Can you find it in the New Testament?

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!!!!!!!!!

A Sign

Isaiah 7
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Immanuel = God with us.

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Luke 1
26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”[c]
29 But when she saw him,[d] she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”

This week I will try to let the amazing miracle of Jesus sink in. I will start each day with Him.
Merry Christmas!!!!

Isaiah 9

6 For unto us a Child is born,
      Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
      Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
      Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace
      There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

This is one of my favorite Prophecies concerning Jesus. I am living in the middle of this prophecy. Enjoying the Grace and Privilege because a child was born and a Son was given. Looking forward to His return as King of kings. This messed up world is not my home, I'm a citizen of a better kingdom! And I'm a child of the King!
Merry Christmas!!!!!

It's where I go to search

Do you have a quiet place?
Like the 1962 song "Up on the Roof" by the Drifters, James Taylor recorded a version too, but the Drifter's were the best.
Sorry, A.D.D. Kicked in.
The hay field is my spot on the planet where I escape. It's where I do my best soul searching. I love it's solitude and openess, it reminds me of where I came from. It's like a small patch of Kansas prairie dropped onto North Louisiana.

This blogspot is a place like that. A spot we can meet together and share the journey. I hope it will be a place of encouragement and honesty.
Feel free to join in or just ponder quietly.
